Mithun was born in a village Baikunthapur of Hooghly, West Bengal in 1985 (India). He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree (2005) from City College, Calcutta University and Master of Science degree (2007) from IIT-KHARAGPUR in Chemistry. Then he moved to South Korea, completed his doctoral study under the supervision of Prof. Kyo Han Ahn from the Department of Chemistry of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), in 2012 with the thesis entitled as “Development of Reaction-based Fluorescence Probes for Metal Species.” After completing his doctoral study, he got an opportunity for postdoctoral research work from National University of Singapore (NUS) under Prof. Suresh Valiyaveettil, he continued with postdoctoral work in Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore under Prof. Naohiko Yoshikai. Mithun joined Prof. Bradley’s research group in July 2018 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate of EPSRC funded multidisciplinary Proteus project and is working in the discovery and development of novel bacterial optical imaging agents in preparation for clinical use in the ICU.
Outside of work, he enjoys playing and watching cricket, football and badminton. He loves cooking and spending time with his family.
