Maria was born in Galicia, Spain. She obtained a BSc degree in Biochemistry from Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona in 2015. She then moved to Edinburgh to do a MSc in Drug Design and Biomedical Sciences, her MSc project was focused on the synthesis, characterisation and evaluation of series of Rhodamine labelled tripeptide anthraquinone conjugates targeting the tumor related protease legumain. She then worked as a pharmacokineticist (studying ADME of drugs in preclinical phase studies) in Charles River Laboratories, Edinburgh until November 2018.
Maria started her PhD in Bradley Group on December 2018, her project focuses on the synthesis of peptide based “smartprobes” for molecular imaging.
In her spare time she loves running, cycling and swimming and spending time in the mountains.
